Some odd combination of The Nutcracker and The Princess Bride going on in our apartment these days

Things have been strange in our apartment lately. Before Thanksgiving we'd been hearing noises in the attic and walls, and were pretty convinced there was something living up there. Something rather large by the amount of noise it made. This theory was further confirmed when we found a hole in the eave of our building, along with one little rodent dropping in our kitchen just days before Thanksgiving. A bit disconcerting, you might say. We reported all of this to the management, but since it was the holiday we didn't press it and figured we'd take care of it when we got back from my parents' place on Saturday morning.

And boy did we ever. When we returned from our holiday away we returned to a house that had apparently become a rodent playground - droppings everywhere, a half-eaten apple on the bar, and surprise of all surprises, a huge rat hiding in the bookcase. If it hadn't been for the dog and her keen instincts for hunting down furry critters, there's no telling how long we would have cohabitated with that rat. We managed to trap it that evening, and caught 2 others overnight. We figured we had caught them all since nothing else appeared in the traps, so maintenance came and sealed up the hole they had chewed in the wall behind the stove and sent pest control out to check on things.

That's when it really got interesting. The pest guy went in the attic last week to see if there were anymore rats, and came down saying there were signs of large animal activity. Large? Like, how large? Are we talking raccoon large, or like R.O.U.S. large? He set traps to catch whatever it is, and one of those traps went of at 6:45 last night. It sounded like a small refrigerator fell over in the attic. We then proceeded to listen to the "large animal" drag the apparently refrigerator sized trap around. ALL. NIGHT. LONG.

Needless to say, we are both very tired. Since the pest service was already scheduled to come out today, we left a note telling them about the trapped animal and asked them to be sure to remove it from the attic please, along with any other small appliances they may have placed up there. Oh, and can you please let us know what it is? Because we're very curious.

**Update: Apparently we really DO have R.O.U.S.'s up there. The pest guy's note said there was "A big raccon" in the attic. Not quite sure what a raccon is, but we're pretty sure there's more than one, as I can hear it tromping around right now.

Oh Girl,

You had me laughing. I wonder why the Rats, R.O.U.S.'s, or Raccons chose your attic?
