I would love to know if anyone out there has the ability to fold a fitted sheet into a neat little square. I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to do this. My mom can fold a fitted sheet as flat and square as its matching flat sheet. HOW DOES SHE DO THIS? I can only surmise that she has some kind of super power that allows her to defy the laws of elastic physics; a super power which enables her to magically smooth out the fabric scrunches created by the elastic, therefore creating the perfectly folded fitted sheet.
I believe this super power is called OCD.
As a kid, whenever she would have me fold the pile of sheets she had just removed from the dryer, she would tell me to leave the fitted sheets for her. Even my very best efforts left the sheets folded into puffy, oblong shaped blobs and, as she claimed, they wouldn't fit into the linen closet this way. I think it's really because she couldn't handle having those blobby shaped sheets staring back at her every time she opened the linen closet, just like she couldn't handle the spices not being alphabetized in the spice rack. She had a perfectly good reason for that one, too. I have tried and tried to fold my fitted sheets as perfectly as my mother does, but so far the best I've been able to do is something that somewhat resembles a parallelogram. A puffy one. With one end thicker than the other. If fitted sheet folding is how they judge you on good wife skills, I'm definitely defunct.

I can't fold those well either. But I only stress about cleanliness in places people are likely to see, and the inside of a closet is not such a place.

I read about this in a book once, and my fitted sheets fold much better now, though not as well as the flat sheet. First, turn the sheet upside down with the elastic on top instead of the bottom. Now leave the part that naturaly folds in on itself and just use the natural corners to fold the sheet. If I could draw you a picture this would make lot more sense.
