And this is why I didn't go into PR

This story on CNN is, well, I don't believe there are words to describe how disgusting and appalling it is.

This paragraph especially blows my mind:

The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, which oversees the hospital, released a statement Tuesday saying it was "shocked and distressed by this situation. It is clear that some of our employees failed to act based on our compassionate standards of care."

I'm sorry, but I believe it is clear that your employees failed to act as HUMAN BEINGS. The lack of compassion in the above statement only serves to explain why the employees acted the way they did. I can not believe institutions like this still exist in this country.

Mom MOM:

I, as a nurse who works in a mental hospital, cannot comprehend the lack of supervision those patients received. Nor can I fathom the "charting" done on that patient. Abhorrent.

Heather:

I'm shocked at the people sitting around her in the waiting room! How can anyone just sit there while someone falls to the floor and convulses, there is a person sitting in the chair across from her, who does nothing. Totally appalling.

Okay, first there is the woman dying in the ER waiting room and then the employees trying to cover it up in her chart. I'm speechless. As a fellow human being, I find their lack of care unbelievable.

But what happens every day across the country is people waiting for 24+ in an ER waiting room for care. I saw a national news series on this a few months ago. There is something wrong with the health care system at a foundational level.

This of course is no excuse for the employees' failure to act as human beings.
