Fine Lines
If it’s illegal to drink and drive, does that mean it’s illegal to drink and take defensive driving?

What is up with this new trend of commercials showing people in horribly disturbing car accidents? Seriously. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THIS. THIS WILL NOT MAKE ME BUY YOUR PRODUCT. I watch TV to relax and escape from the craziness of the world, and here you scaring the crap out of me with these commercials. NOT COOL.
The worst part is they suck you in by making you think you’re going to see some nice little commercial involving a family or friends talking about something fun and innocent, and then BAM! Next thing you know glass is flying, people are being tossed around in the car, and you’re reaching for the remote as fast as you can because you just don’t want to see that.
Hmm, not unlike my reaction when a System of a Down song comes on the radio.
Tonight I'm dining at La Madeleine for a work meeting. While most people have probably had at least one meal there, I have personally avoided that place like the plague for a couple of reasons. 1) It's French and therefore snooty and I hate snooty restaurants, and 2) It's French and I probably can't eat a single thing on their menu. As you can see it pretty much boils down to the fact that it's French. Don't get me wrong...I don't hate the French. Just everything they stand for.
In preparation for tonight's meeting I checked out their menu online so I could get a feel for what I might be able to eat. I was as disappointed as I expected to be. They insist on smothering everything they make with flour thickened sauces. Grrrrr. It looks like I'll be having a salad for dinner even though it's really the last thing I want to eat right now. Oh well. At least I have a Hebrew National hotdog waiting for me at home. The Jewish, they know how to make me happy!
I was reading this post on Dooce this morning and noticed something about one of the pictures. What is up with the hideous lattice background? Who thought this would look good in a picture? Here, let's put this attrociously busy background behind you. It will help detract from your hideous clothes and hair, another plague of the 80's.
And just in case you're thinking maybe Dooce's picture is some sort of anomoly, I give you this picture of my dad and me, circa 1986.

How do they make Fat-Free Half & Half?
Oh, that's how. I'd rather just drink the fat and avoid the chemicals.
In those moments, when you've been standing in the bathroom asking yourself when it was you ate corn, have you ever really been able to remember?
The reality is that while we are parenting our kids we are instilling in them an impression of who God is.
This statement hits me hard, especially as I sort through my emotions surrounding recent events in my family. It explains so much about my struggles with faith and trusting God. My number one prayer, if I am ever a parent, is that I would strive to live this out with my kids, and that through that they would be able to step out to discover who God is.
